Basic Work at Height Training

This course provides the minimum information required for the correct fitting of a fall arrest harness and the basic use of a work restraint and fall arrest lanyard. The course is suitable for all industries being a mixture of theory and practical.

The course can be delivered on site, providing minimum theory and practical facilities are available, or at the Guardian Training Centre in Kent.

This course is suitable for all those who are occasionally required to work at height and find themselves having to wear a harness and lanyard in order to reduce the risk of falls/injury.

Course content:

Theory:

  • Relevant Legislation
  • The ‘Hierarchy of Control’ – risk based approach to working at height
  • Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) – the ABC’s
  • Pre-use equipment inspection
  • Common hazards associated with working at height
  • Emergency considerations (including Suspension Trauma)

Practical:

  • Pre-use inspection of harness, restraint and fall arrest lanyard
  • Correct fitting the harness
  • Correct use of a Work Restraint lanyard
  • Correct use of a Fall Arrest Lanyard

Course Assessment - Both written and practical assessment made.

Course Duration - 1/2 day.

Maximum course numbers - 8 delegates to 1 instructor.

Creditation - In line with BS8454

Pre-requisite:

  • Medically fit
  • Body mass within safe working limit of equipment.
  • A good understanding of the local language, spoken, written and read.

Course Validity
On successful completion of the course delegates will be issued with a certificate of competence valid for 3 years.
