Honeywell Li-ion Tamer LT-CTR-SML Gen 3 Controller
The Honeywell Li-ion Tamer LT-CTR-SML is the central controller for the Li-ion Tamer Gen 3 lithium-ion battery off-gas detection system. Designed as an industrial Linux-based computer, it aggregates and processes information received from the system's monitoring and reference sensors, providing centralised monitoring of lithium-ion battery installations.
The controller continuously processes sensor status information to determine when a potential lithium-ion battery cell venting event has occurred. By working with Li-ion Tamer Gen 3 sensors positioned throughout the battery installation, the system can provide early warning of conditions associated with battery failure before they potentially progress to thermal runaway.
In addition to processing off-gas detection signals, the LT-CTR-SML receives temperature and humidity measurements from connected sensors and monitors the system for fault conditions. A detailed history of time-stamped sensor data is also recorded, providing useful information for system analysis and post-event diagnosis.
Each LT-CTR-SML can support up to 100 sensors, making it suitable for a wide range of lithium-ion battery installations. Honeywell recommends a maximum of 10 hubs per controller.
For integration with external monitoring and control systems, the controller provides Modbus TCP/IP communication over Ethernet. An optional Ethernet relay module can also be connected to provide configurable dry-contact relay outputs, allowing Li-ion Tamer status information to be integrated with building management systems (BMS), battery management systems and other site safety or control equipment.

System Integration
The LT-CTR-SML features two Ethernet network connections. Network 1 is used for the internal Li-ion Tamer detection network, connecting the controller with system hubs, Ethernet switches and optional relay modules. Network 2 provides external Modbus TCP/IP communication and can be configured with a static IP address for integration with customer systems.
Applications
The LT-CTR-SML is designed for use as part of a complete Li-ion Tamer Gen 3 installation protecting lithium-ion battery applications such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centres, battery rooms, industrial facilities, manufacturing sites and other critical infrastructure.
Its scalable architecture allows a single controller to manage installations containing up to 100 Li-ion Tamer sensors, while larger installations can utilise additional controllers as required.
